What
is Advanced Swedish Massage?
This
is a more vigorous form of massage than that used in Aromatherapy
and less firm than Sports and Remedial Massage.
Advanced
Swedish Massage has its roots in Eastern Medicine and is particularly
recognised for its ability to provide deep tissue and muscle relaxation
and assist with joint mobility. Practitioners use a combination
of gentle flowing massage along with friction, kneading, percussion
and stimulation of pressure points, as well as stretching and joint
manipulation.
The
aim of Advanced Swedish Massage is for the client to be able to
move freely and without pain. Observation of posture and balance
will be made and breathing techniques taught along with exercises
to help prevent recurrence of pain and to maintain mobility.
In
addition to joint mobility and pain reduction, Swedish Massage can
be very helpful for stress reduction, digestive problems including
irritable bowel syndrome and constipation, as well as asthma, and
bronchitis.

How
is a Swedish Massage session conducted?
After
a detailed assessment including observation of body posture and
mobility, the client undresses (in privacy) down to briefs and then
lies on a couch and covers themselves with towels. Modesty is preserved
at all times and only party of the body being massaged are exposed.
Joints, particularly those of the limbs, may also be manipulated
and gently stretched and some breathing exercises carried out. Before
the client leaves they will be taught some home exercises to assist
with their treatment.
